oz-noy-dave-weckl-etienne-mbappe-asian-twistz So last week I was so very happy to see this CD come in the mail. You see several years ago I had filled out this online survey and won a $20 gift card from Amazon…. and well, I forgot I had it!!

Now, to the music….

I’m a big fan of Oz Noy. I had listened to the album several times on Spotify and Google Music (I’m a paid subscriber to both).

But, as of late, the album disappeared. Yeah, it’s hard to really make $$ in this new age where the platforms don’t pay in abundance! I know all about this when I look at our own digital earnings!

When I remembered I had the gift certificate.. well, there was no question what album I would get.

This is really a great trio and they go back and forth from being really jazzy to getting into some really tasty grooves.

Dave Weckl certainly doesn’t disappoint. In fact, I don’t think he ever has! Very musical, very expressive… can be in the pocket, ahead of the beat, behind the beat and so so fluid! Mr Weckl also lays down some very nice drum solos!

Though I’m not that familiar with Etienne Mbappe‘s work, what I will say is that it all fits like a glove. From the jazz to the funk and fat grooves…. it’s all the way it “should” be!

Just Groove Me is one of my favorite Oz Noy tunes. Great grooves, I love the guitar sounds that Oz came up with in this one and I also love some of the phrasings that kind of turn into “band fills”. Also love Oz’s solo in this one.

I also love Steroids, Get Down and Downside Up.
