Very cool stories from Danny Gottlieb on studying the drums with Joe Morello.
As a very young guy who was a bit cocky and somewhat of a “music snob”, as one who only thought what I liked was “good”…. I saw Mr Morello at the Montreal Drum Fest years ago. This was very influential for me.
Admittedly, I was beginning to recover from the “music snobbishness” by the time I saw Joe.
This is a great talk about one of the absolute masters of the drum kit and technique.
I remember seeing Joe getting on stage almost blind, had his nephew (I believe) help him get to his kit. And from there we witnessed a master dance on his drum kit with both precision and power….. with a beautiful flow. I will never forget that performance.
And I remember the thunderous standing ovation that we all gave him, upon entrance… and especially upon exit from the stage.
